Historically, self-awareness has been an individual pursuit: we’ve been on our own to discover our deepest values and our value, why we do things, what we love. But, contrary to expectation, research shows that the more we introspect the less self knowledge we have! And while useful, actionable, unbiased feedback is a rarity across the board, research shows that “women receive harsher feedback, more personality feedback, and less constructive or actionable feedback than their male counterparts. This has been true even when the women are top performers.” Put simply: although women are more likely to pursue self awareness, they are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to getting and making use of the inputs required to fully realize their highest purpose and impact.
